The latest firmware update from Pulsar, Security Update 2.5.100, extends the major security measures found in the previous update to the Merger Duo NXP50 and Axion XQ30 Pro models — ensuring every device in the current Pulsar product range is protected against the increasing risks of cybercrime.
Security update 2.5.100 will automatically change your device’s default generic password to a random one (if the password has not already been changed by the user), enhancing your device’s security, protecting you against cybercriminals, improving the stability of these devices, and ensuring all of our current devices comply with new PSTI legislation and IoT (Internet of Things) regulations.
What Happens to Your Password?
Installing Security Update 2.5.100 will not mean you will lose your password. Once you have updated your device, the default password will reset and your new, randomised password will be discoverable in the Wi-Fi section of your device’s main menu. You will then be able to change it to a user-defined password. If you have already changed the default password before the update, your password will not randomise and will still work.
How to Reconnect to Your Smartphone
Once the update is complete and your password has been reset, please be aware that your smartphone will no longer be connected to your device via Wi-Fi. Please take these few easy steps to reconnect to your device.
Head to your smartphone’s settings and choose to forget the existing Wi-Fi network, as demonstrated below:
Check for the new password in the Wi-Fi settings in the main menu:
Enter your new password in the Wi-Fi section on your smartphone:
Your smartphone and Pulsar device should now be connected through Wi-Fi.
Additional Features Included with Security Update 2.5.100
Although these security enhancements are the main focus of this update, they are by no means the only improvements offered. This update includes the following additional enhancements:
Improved Comfort
Once you have installed this update, you will notice some improvements released on previous Merger models, including the Display Dimming function. This allows you to control the brightness of all display elements in one go, reducing the likelihood of eye strain and ensuring a comfortable viewing experience in complete darkness. The ability to dim the display also reduces light bleed, making you less visible to animals.
Longer Battery Life
An enhanced battery saving option is now available with this update, allowing you to keep your observations going for even longer! Once activated, your device will automatically power off after 30 minutes of inactivity, preventing battery drain when not in use and extending device’s battery life.
More Language Options
Even more language options are now available, including Bulgarian, Finnish, Lithuanian, Latvian, and Ukrainian.
Minor Updates for a Smoother Experience
A range of minor enhancements includes a red auto-calibration countdown in the status bar which notifies you of an upcoming recalibration so you know when to expect a shutter freeze, and a green square used to highlight the area you are observing while using Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode.
